Assessment and Evaluation

For constituent institutions, assessment and evaluation of students in the Bachelor and Master programmes shall be of three types:

  • Continuous/Formative Assessment 40%
  • Achievement/Summative Test (at the end of term/semester) 60%
  • CompExam at the end of each academic year

A separate portion with 25% weightage of the summative test will be allocated to practical where it is involved.

Further break-up of Continuous Assessment shall be subject to the nature of each course or the methodology adopted by each teacher in the course. However, each teacher must follow the following criteria in this regards ot otherwise approved by Syndicate:

  • At least two assignments/presentations in each course, with a total weightage of 18%.
  • A mid term test/monthly class tests equivalent to 20% weightage or any special assignment or project equivalent to this weightage.
  • 2% weightage to the student attaining attendance 90% or more, general conduct or behaviour, and/or extra-ordinary participation in academic activities in each course in each term/semester during the regular course work.

There will be internship of six months at the end of the programme. There are three ways the internship could be completed:

  • At least two assignments/presentations in each course, with a total weightage of 18%.
  • A mid term test/monthly class tests equivalent to 20% weightage or any special assignment or project equivalent to this weightage.
  • 2% weightage to the student attaining attendance 90% or more, general conduct or behaviour, and/or extra-ordinary participation in academic activities in each course in each term/semester during the regular course work.

A student must pass formative assessment (40%) and summative test (60%) at the end of a semester separately.

There will be internship of three months at the end of the programme. There are three ways the internship could be completed:

  • The student may select a school of his/her choice to complete the internship.
  • The student may get admission to a higher degree programme.
  • The concerned institution may arrange the schools for internship.

The minimum pass marks in continuous assessment shall be 40% in Bachelor and 45% in Master Degree programme. Failing to this criterion the students will not be eligible for the award of the Degree.

The minimum pass marks for UExam/CompExam will be 40% in Bachelor and 45% in Master degree programme. To pass this examination shall be compulsory for a student for the award of degree.

The complete record of continuous and summative assessment shall be the responsibility of the head of the institution or his nominee, who will be a senior faculty member of the institution and will be appointed by the head of the institution, he/she will keep all the relevant record for a period of two years from the date of notification of result.

With regard to unfair means cases, the teacher in charge will report to the head who will call the meeting of the senior faculty members for necessary action.

The minimum attendance requirement to appear in any summative test / UExam / CompExam will be 75% of the total credit hours.

The normal period for the completion of the degree programme shall be as fixed by the University. Up to one year extension may be recommended by the Hardship Cases Committee in genuine cases and granted by the head of the institution. For further extension, the case will be sent to the Vice Chancellor who may extend the period for one more year. A student repeating the course shall be treated as a special student.

In case a student is not satisfied with his award, he/she may submit an application for checking. The head of the institution may allow checking of the answer book. In case of the UExam/CompExam, however, the decision about checking of the answer book will be made by CE.

If a student is dropped in one or two courses, he/she will have to deposit the assessment fee per course for Re-test to be notified by the head of the institution. For failure in more than two courses, he/she has to repeat the complete term/semester.


Grading/Promotion System

There shall be grades in each semester/term and GPA as final award of each academic session, as shown below
